With Blood Magic coming out soon I thought I would take this opportunity to introduce someone whom you’ll be meeting. His name is Dufin Rustbeard, now let me think how I could describe him in one simple sentence. He’s an ex-warrior, who is a mine working botanist. Yup I think that sums him up.
I was able to meet up with him in his quaint little cottage. It was a little difficult to find since it’s off the beaten path and well... in a different realm. The commute was a bit tricky. But once I found his place he was very welcoming. We sat at his kitchen table and had some tea while I asked my questions. Me: Let’s all say hello to Mr. Rustbeard. Mr.Rustbeard: That’s Master Warrior Rustbeard, lass. But ye can call me Dufin. Me: Oh thank you. This is a lovely home you have here. I particularly think the flower beds out front are quite beautiful. Dufin: Ah thank ye, but Ah doubt that is why ye aire here. If ye can we git oan with it? Ah have things tae attend tae. Me: Right sorry. Some of my readers were interested to know if you have any pets. Dufin: Pets? What would Ah doa with a pet? Me: Well as I understand it, you had a horse. One from the war. Dufin: Aye, but he ain’t no pet. *Pointed out the window to a herd of horses in the meadow below* Me: They are beautiful. I’ve never seen a red horse before. Is it unique to your realm? Dufin: Ah have no idea. Ah’ve never been toa another realm. But the Crimson Steeds aire a mighty breed o’ horses. They aire a true war horse. Me: May I see your horse? Do you still ride him? Dufin: No’ since the war. Ah set my mighty and loyal steed, Wildshade, free. He runs with the rest o’ the free war horses. *Pause in audio as I waited for Dufin to return to the table* Me: Many have come to admire your beard. When I was asking around the village on what you may look like so I knew who I was talking to they would describe your beard. Now that I’ve seen it for myself, I can see why everyone admires it. Does it take much to keep it so tidy? Dufin: Seriously, lass? Beard maintenance is the topic ye wish tao talk about? Me: I’m sure I have some readers who would love to know how to grow such a beard. I’ve never seen anything like it myself. None of the other men in town have one remotely-- Dufin: Ah earned this beard, every inch, braid, mustache, and ring. Me: Oh? Earned it how? Dufin: The war, lass, the war. Dao yer people no’ have ranks in yer military? Me: We do, but it’s not denoted by facial hair. They wear their rank as insignia on their shoulders. Dufin: Tattoo’s? Very impressive. Me: Uh, no-- Dufin: Aire there any mair questions? Ah have to git to meetin’ with the King. Me: You’re a very –to the point- kind of guy, eh? I can appreciate that, I myself like to be to keep things-- Dufin: Lass... Me: Right sorry, perhaps I can come back tomorrow and finish then? Dufin: Ah’m a afraid no’, lass. Ah will be leavin’ town right after the meetin’. Me: Oh, well I thank you for taking the time out this morning to talk to me. I know my readers will love to hear from you. *Being ushered to the door* Me: You wouldn’t happen to know of someplace cheap for me to stay the night? I, uh, bumped into this rather handsome man with a mohawk yesterday and I can’t be certain, but I think he stole my wallet. I-I can’t seem to find it, and I don’t have any more money left after my night stay at the inn. *He left me standing at the front door when he returned he handed me a small leather pouch* Dufin: This should git ye home. Next time be mair careful. Me: Right, thank you so much! Have a safe and wonderful trip. Well there you have it. An introduction of Dufin Rustbeard. He was so polite and amazing to give me the money I needed to get home. I felt a little embarrassed about the whole being robbed. But the guy was so dang charming! I digress, thank you all for tuning in. I will see you next month!
